It's a Very, Very, Long, Windy Road

Our wonderful Production Manager Rachael is out driving our van back from the east, and here's an update on the exciting things she run in to so far:

This week I am driving the Shape tour’s van across America from New Jersey to Vancouver. I’ve done the trip across Canada several times in the last few years, so I was excited to see some American territory. Dating all the way back to my time with Cranked, I have been irrationally excited about the Dakotas. I don’t know why. I was happy to see that my travels this time would take through South Dakota, a state I have never visited.
So yesterday morning I hit the Iowa/South Dakota border and never looked back. I learned so many things in one day. Here’s a few:
The Interstate through SD is 120km/h and is a very long, flat road surrounded by grasslands.

The variety along the Interstate is the billboards. And some stores, or attractions, advertise every few kilometres for 800 kms! No joke. Wall Drug is very close to the western border but they start advertising clear across the state, in fact, possibly still in Iowa!

A bit of variety in the grasslands for South Dakota as I approach the Black Hills

SD is the home of the world’s only corn palace, Mount Rushmore (I have no idea where I thought it was, but now I know), Laura Ingalls Wilder (so excited! I always wanted to be a pioneer), and the film Dances with Wolves

The folks for South Dakota are very friendly and helpful.

This morning I’m off to spend the day crossing Montana. Maybe I’ll see wild horses?
