For those of you who don't know, The EDGE Project is a multi-community outreach program that Green Thumb offers to secondary schools across the lower mainland. The program involves students from four lower mainland schools, and brings them together between September and December to create, design, develop, write and perform in, a play that is about who they are and what they believe. The play is literally entirely written by the students who perform in it, and gives young people a chance to be heard and express how they really feel about their world around them.
This isn't a teen-angst play by teens who just want to complain. This is a play about their concerns about growing up, how they try to fit it, who they really are instead of who you think they are; and above all, it's a play about them.
Last night was opening night, and boy was it incredible! Although we know young people are talented, we often forget how talented they really are, and the talent was certainly oozing from every direction last night. Featuring original songs performed by the students, dance numbers, and some really powerful silent vignettes, the EDGE Project 2011 is a show unlike any other.
Congratulations to Tupper, Seycove, Burnett and Alpha! You guys rock and we can't wait to see the show again tonight!
If you would like to come see a performance, you still have time! Performances are tonight (Friday) at 8pm, and tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $5 for students. For tickets please give us a call at 604-254-4055.
We would also like to once again thank the organizations who helped make The EDGE Project 2011 happen... BC Direct Access Gaming, Metro Vancouver and Kinder Morgan. This is a free program that we offer to the students who participate, and their funding ensures we can continue to offer this program for years to come.
